Add non dairy milk and vinegar together to make a homemade vegan version of "buttermilk". Add onions and allow to sit for at least 15 minutes.
Whisk together dry ingredients.
Add oil to a non stick skillet over medium high heat.
Using your hand, remove the onions from the buttermilk mixture all at once and place into the flour mixture. Toss until all of the onions are coated and all of the flour has been absorbed.
Working in two to three batches, add the onions to the hot oil allowing to fry, tossing occasionally.
Remove once golden and crispy and place onto paper towels to drain. Sprinkle with a bit more salt, if desired.
